BC, Not So Amazing

Tonight my mom and I headed to BC Restaurant in the Armory Square area for our last night in Syracuse. We had reservations at 6:30pm and arrived right on time.
We decided to order a glass of wine each to start and were immediately served a basket of fresh bread along with a caramelized onion cream cheese spread. It was delicious! I didn’t take any pictures because it was really dark in there!
Next, we decided to order 2 appetizers and a pizza to share. We decided on the crab cake appetizer with pineapple slaw topped with orange chili sauce and the crispy chicken skewers coated in a sambal honey sauce on top of celery and ginger sour cream. The appetizers were good, but weren’t amazing and didn’t blow me away.
For our pizza, we ordered the grilled vegetable pizza with goat cheese, balsamic reduction, and herbs. We waited a long time for our pizza and after 20-25 minutes after we finished our appetizers, the maitre d came over to us and informed us that some “mignon” in the back had burned our pizza and that he was going to be in trouble. How mean! I said, “No, it’s totally fine. Don’t yell at him!” Seriously, it takes 7-10 minutes to make another pizza. Or so I thought…
After another 20 minutes passed, we finally got our pizza. The pizza itself was good, but I’ve had much better restaurant pizza’s. I felt as though I could have made this at home. Our waiter was also m.i.a. for most of the night which is why we didn’t leave the restaurant until just after 8:30pm! It was nice to sit and chat with my mom for awhile but spending 2 hours at a restaurant when we only ordered appetizers and a pizza is a little crazy I think! They did end up taking the price of the pizza off of our bill, so that was nice. Needless to say, we probably won’t be back there anytime soon.
We still had a great night and are now back at my apartment watching Dateline NBC (nerd alert!). I will be heading to bed soon since we are waking up early, packing up the car, and heading back to Saratoga!
Have you ever had a below average experience at a restaurant? If so, what happened?
